Manufacturing of a start-up flash-tank

We manufacture containers in all sizes…

We manufactured a start-up flash tank for a power plant in the Netherlands in the beginning of 2009. It had a diameter of circa 5m a length of nearly 18m and an all up weight of about 56 tons.

We process many different metallic materials according to the task. We refine the surfaces via appropriate procedures, to protect them against corrosion or aggressive media. We work closely with approved assessment organisations like the Technical-Control Board Hessen GmbH to secure the quality of our products.

• Scope of Services
Concept and design according to TRD, AD rules and standards, DRGL, ANSI, ASME; planning, preliminary test, assembly, quality control (building-, pressure-, weldseam-, density-testings etc.), surface treatment.

The MESSER Industriemontagen & Apparatebau GmbH had exact four months of time, to craft this enormous device with only six employees.

The physical dimensions of the container are: circa 18 meters length and circa 5 meters on the diameter. The flash tank has a all up weight of circa 56 tons and the transporter had incl. loading a height of circa 6,3 meters. Due to the height of the transporter the start-up flash tank could not be transported all the way to the destination on the streets. The „Kombientspanner“ is a part of a powerplant that is needed to start up the steam boiler. A steam boiler needs huge amounts of steam to start-up the powerplant. Too much to consume during the regular operations. The excess steam is dissipated into the start-up flash tank next to the steam boiler. Inside of the flash tank the steam expands and is leaded into the atmosphere. The other part of the steam condenses and is given back to nature as unsoiled water. Therefrom the name „Kombientspanner“!
